Screen printing is a process by which
items are printed on with ink through a screen. This is a process that
was used by the Egyptians and Greeks as early as 2500 B.C. and Chinese
and Japanese craftsmen around 300 A.D. The process has become
increasingly more modernized since the first patent for screen printing
equipment was awarded in 1907.
Preparation Charges
Preparation charges will include artwork layout, creating film
positives, color ink matching and making a screen for each color and
print position. Prep charges are for creating any or all of the above
items which are required by the equipment actually doing the printing.
These are somewhat complex tasks, equipment and materials utilized to
create these pieces.
Once your art, films, screens, etc. are made, imaged screens are used
to print your garment. Imaged screens are not normally retained except
by prior arrangement. If the screens are retained, your shirts can be
printed from them again without incurring these types of charges on
subsequent print runs.
In many cases, charges for any of the aforementioned items will be
included in 'Screen Prep' on your quote and invoice.
